I am writing in response to an article that was published in the
Oct. 9 edition of the Reflector concerning the recent action of
Congress concerning extending hate crimes laws to cover gays and
lesbians. It is already against the law to assault somebody for
any reason. I do not understand why Congress has to extend laws
simply because a person chooses to be a homosexual or a lesbian.
When you reveal that you are living this lifestyle, you must
realize that you are doing nothing but opening yourself up to a
lot of unnecessary ridicule and persecution.

I think what happened to Matt Sheppard was reprehensible and
horrible to say the least, and I believe that the perpetrators
got exactly what they deserved. But to add this legislation to a
defense bill is very inappropriate because not only is it an
insult to our soldiers that are overseas fighting to protect
America from future terrorist attacks, it is also an insult to
Bible-believing Christians who believe that homosexuality is
wrong. All this legislation is designed to do is to get people
to recognize homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle. I, for
one, do not advocate violence against anyone for any reason, but
I also do not believe that we should ever recognize
homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle simply because it is
what God's word says it is. It is an abomination, pure and
simple.

You are entitled to your opinion, but when it rolls over into hate actions
there has to be a stop to it.

There are many persons who sprout hatred of the Gays from the pulpit and
they must be stopped by any means, and anti hate legislation is a good
start.

The Gays have been persecuted for centuries, and the main culprit is the
church.

The torture, hangings, burning at the stake, stoning to death, jailing etc
of Gays springs from religion.

Sure no one says you have to like them, but the church's actions over the
centuries is pure hatred for a group that did them no harm.

Just tell me one war where Gays took up arms against Christians !!!!!!!!!!!

...and yet the church has been at war with Gays for centuries.

As for God's Word, well that is your interpretation as the majority of
people of the world are NOT Christians and of those who say they are many
only pay lip service to the church and so the majority do do not need to
follow your creed.

That is the big problem with most religions, they wish to force their ideas
on the general population.

If you want to go to church and pray, fine, but do not come sniveling in
here with you holier than thou attitude, after all just looking at the
Inquisition shows what an abomination one church is, and still is, with its
head telling Africans not to use condoms in an AIDS infested continent.
